We get the roof done while the sun shines

We finally had a nice week of mild, good building weather. We're supposed to get a bit of rain tomorrow afternoon, but this is the first week since we've been out here that we've had four days in a row of sunshine and comfortable temperatures. Great weather for putting down some shingling.

Because Monday was a little too windy to be up on the roof, we spent the day finishing up the cross framing between the wall studs inside the cabin. Now the walls are good and sturdy and the sheathing outside is securely in place. On Tuesday, we got to work on laying down shingling on the roof and was able to get the job by 10:00am this morning (Thursday).

The roof on the cabin is at a shallow pitch, so we really couldn't use the standard house shingles on the roof. So, we opted for a rolled roof, which was a pretty easy job to do (as roofing goes). In the future, we may put down metal roofing. But for now, this will do a good job at keeping us dry. I put the same kind of roofing on the shed, which is attached to the old camper trailer, and it has kept things dry through all of the storms we had so far. So, I must have installed it right.

Next, we'll work on installing the doors, applying the house wrap, and installing some windows. We also have to finish up with soffits before the really cold weather hits and we start to insulate, but at least we're getting a chance to close things up.
